Pierre Coupey

The Alphabet of Blood [PDF, 1.3mb] 1964.

Born in Montreal in 1942, Pierre Coupey was the founding editor of both The Georgia Straight (1967) and The Capilano Review (1971). His "The Alphabet of Blood" was an early influence on Canadian poet bpNichol, who claimed it was one of the earliest examples of visual poetry in Canada. Published in 1964, each of the original pages were to be excised from the original publication and reassembled into an arc of dry-transfer lettering. Published in a little magazine, 'The Alphabet of Blood" has rarely been reprinted.
