Escape Mechanism, Steev Hise, The Tape-beatles, and Wobbly - Minneapolis Summit (1996) The Tape-beatles on UbuWeb 01 Minneapolis Summit 01 Outtake 1 02 Outtake 2 On October 1, 2001, in Minneapolis, we met in a radio station recording studio with the express aim of improvising which what we'd brought, and letting the result speak for itself. This the result: a recording documenting the improvised conflux of five audio-art personalities: Escape Mechanism, Steev Hise, the two members of The Tape-beatles and Wobbly. The main track consists of a 21-minute edit of the longest of three takes made during the recording session. The initial edits were undertaken by Hise and Wobbly in November, who then trustingly passed it on to the Tape-beatles to complete the job. In all cases, the edits were limited to a small number of cuts and crossfades, with no chronological re-arrangement or overdubbing. Additional strong material from the sessions are presented here as two excised outtakes. This release took the form of an 80mm miniCD with a companion 80mm mini VideoCD, showing some of what went on at the proceedings. Composed and performed in the recording studio by: Escape Mechanism (Jon Nelson) Steev Hise The Tape-beatles (Lloyd Dunn and John Heck) Wobbly (Jon Leidecker) Audio edited by: Steev Hise John Leidecker Lloyd Dunn John Heck Video shot by: Lloyd Dunn John Heck Steev Hise Video edited by: Lloyd Dunn John Heck MiniCD release 2002: Staalplaat, Amsterdam, Netherlands; and Berlin, Germany Additional material at: http://pwp.detritus.net/works/recordings |
