Jérôme Bel (b. 1964)
The Show Must Go On (2001)
The Show Must Go On examines the relationship between art and life, explores the clash of fine art and entertainment and challenges audience expectations. In a minimal set up characteristic of Jérôme Bel’s work, a DJ plays clips of popular songs from past eras to more recent chart-toppers while dancers literally follow the instructions of the song lyrics.

Surprisingly thought-provoking and poignant, it’s a show about how a choreographer uses signs to stir up emotions, evoke associations and create meaning as a dialogue with the imagination of the audience. This performance will be cast with local dancers.
