Ward Teitz | USA [Ward Teitz Main Page] Five Kites (1991) view of the upstream zone view of the downstream zone the word "across" concrete, steel, paint; total of five words in each zone This piece was composed of two zones. Each zone investigated the phrase "I ran across a kite" in a different way. In the downstream zone, the phrase was orderly and legible. In the upstream zone, the words were more visibly disrupted and chaotically arranged. The double meaning of "ran across", in one sense referring to the flying of the kite, and in the other sense as discovery of the kite, allowed viewers to participate in the water/air metaphor of the piece in different ways. "Five Kites" was commissioned by the Sculpture in the Park Committee, Allentown, PA, May 1991. UbuWeb Contemporary | UbuWeb PennSound | Artmob | EPC | WFMU |
